Looking at the corruption scandals that have rocked Kenya, there is one thing that always seems to always stand out. This one thing is also very evident in corruption scandals that occurred in the past. It has always been at the center of every major scandal dating back to the Golden Berg scandal in the 90’s to the current NYS and maize scandals . Even when exploring corruption scandals across the globe this same thing still sits at the epicenter of it all. I am sure by now most of you already know what it is but for those of you who are still in the dark I shall unravel the mystery. It’s MONEY plain and simple.
In almost every corruption scandal there is always a certain amount of money that goes missing, gets misappropriated or exchanges hands. Even if money was not involved it almost always is or certainly was or will be the motive and driving factor behind it. As I sat down pondering about this the Holy Spirit reminded me of a sermon I once watched by the late Dr. Myles Munroe. In that sermon (which I think was entitled Chase God not Money) he talks about the secrets of money and how powerful it is that if not controlled or poorly managed would result in the ruin of an individual, family or nation.
Money plays a huge role in our lives. A huge part of our lives is spent in the pursuit of it and almost every characteristic of our lives has some monetary aspect to it. We need money to conduct a lot of our normal day to day activities such as, transportation to work, the food we eat, entertainment, for some rent, paying wages or taxes just but a few. Money is so crucial that without it your life comes to a stand still. I have personally experienced this and I am sure you have to, in a way. This is what happens to economies when there is no money, nothing moves (Economic stand still).
Proverbs 4:7 says “wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (KJV). So if money plays such a major role in our lives, and we live most of our lives trying to get money, there is a need to have wisdom and understanding of it. Most of what we know about money or what we were taught to understand about money is either half true, misguided or down right false. Then there is this lie of a corrupted bible verse we were taught that I will address later on in the series that money is the root of all evil. I am going to give you an understanding of money few may know but most will probably be hearing for the first time. The first time it was revealed to me, it blew my mind. So brace yourselves. Since there is much I have to say on this topic I will divide it up into a number of blog series this being the first. In my next blog series we will delve into understanding money and what makes it such a powerful force.
